The airline asserted it will cut the roles of two hundred and fifty agents who are at present on leave and another 350 still working. The company recounted calls to reservations agents are falling fifteen p.c every year as purchasers instead get some tickets from Web sites. Airlines use the call center costs to raise cash and encourage passengers to order online, which is less expensive for the carrier.

Continental said it will not replenish a contract to answer calls for Disney resorts, which will end up in about a hundred of the six hundred job losses. The Houston-based airline has about 2,600 US reservations agents, with approximately one thousand working at home and the rest at centers in Houston and Salt Lake Town .

Last year, Continental cited the same falling trend in online bookings when it closed a call center in Tampa, Fla, and eliminated five hundred roles there. Airlines are on the lookout for paths to boost cash and cut costs as they deal with a slump in travel that started in the recession and has been slow to finish.
