Many online investment opportunities are schemes, FINRA warns.

The Monetary Industry Regulatory Authority warned stockholders last week of high-yield investment suggestions that come thru YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. The majority of the supposed investment opportunities guarantee serious returns on investment and referral bonuses for attracting new speculators.

They also come with little info as to the way in which the money is raised and lack details about the fund operators, FINRA related. The offers "are old style Ponzi schemes dressed up for a Web 2.0 world," FINRA Senior VP John Gannon expounded. "a few of these schemes inspire folks to bring in new victims, [while] others con financiers to 'ride the Ponzi ' by attempting to get out and in before the scheme collapses.". In a case -- the " Path to Wealth " scheme -- a Filipino man is purported to have deceived forty thousand stockholders in more than 120 nations of $70 million thru a slick web site. "when talking about investment opportunities which make themselves available on social media sites, my recommendation is to remain away," related Bruce McClary, media relations coordinator for Henrico County-based ClearPoint Credit Support Solutions. FINRA, a civilian stocks regulator, recommends folk to look out for typos and bad grammar. Stockholders should also determine whom they're dealing with and the individual is approved to deal with them.
