SC group censored June fourth special ...

( Apology and Correction : Yesterday I mixed up SC Media group with SCMP when I submitted this post in the title. Though I edited it in less than 20mins, the feed have spread through twitter and re-tweeted by many others. It had been really tough to design and work out a June fourth special issue, especially for a lifestyle magazine. We could not struggle with daily papers in political reports and we needed to duck the cliche of asking for June fourth vindication.

But in the final analysis, due to a telephone call from our big boss man, the entire special feature needed to be taken away. The an higher rank company staff, who claimed to represent the company, summoned my co-worker and me to the meeting room. The meeting was extremely tense as if we had made some extremely massive mistake. That higher rank company representative took a copy of the special feature in her hand. She further explained that, the company did not have to explain to its staffs, if they didnt like the choice, they could resign. In the final analysis, she asked for our opinion as if she was trusting of what she was doing. She then pin pointed at me pronouncing that I appears not to agree with the company perspective. I dare to distribute this special feature under my true name in mainland China without the doubt that they sentence me to death.

Now I discover that it is maybe the sole media group left in Hong Kong dare to make noise. No-one is here to take away our free press and free expression, it is our own media companies giving that up due to commercial interest. China is robust now, they do not need to use physical means to repress folk, they could just close the door to your business. On 26th of May 2009, Esquire took away page 143-156, but they could not take away June fourth in the calendar. Thanks history for letting us to comprehend the true nature of our company men. Though I edited it in less than 20mins, the feed have spread thru twitter and re-tweeted by many others. The fact that you cannot do your small story is now the bigger story. Plenty of their competition would be more than pleased to take up their share of the market. I am not sure who this unnamed employee is, but he is obviously a hundred percent biased.
